This Mediterranean garden is already well-established, with mature plants like Neriumoleander and Cupressus sempervirens . The space is quite expansive, and the main focus is to keep it low-maintenance. With no irrigation system in place, watering will be limited to occasional hand watering during the hottest days.
As with any garden, planting is an ongoing process, particularly when minimizing water usage and relying primarily on rainwater. We’ve adopted a gradual layering approach, starting with trees to provide shade, followed by hardy shrubs and perennials. By grouping plants with similar water needs, we can improve the efficiency of hand watering and maintain a sense of depth without overcrowding the garden, allowing for a natural, balanced flow.
To further reduce water consumption, we’ll be mulching around the base of plants to minimize evaporation and suppress weeds, keeping maintenance at a minimum. Every plant chosen is drought-tolerant, ensuring the garden remains vibrant year-round with minimal effort.
